Balaka district commissioner Tamanya Harawa has urged 94 youths who have graduated from Khwisa Community Technical College in the district to use their skills to develop their communities.

Speaking on Friday during the graduation of the 2023 Level II Cohort, he said the skills will also enable them to become productive citizens and self-reliant.

“The youth have an opportunity to become independent and employ others in their businesses,” said Harawa.

However, he emphasised the need for the graduands to maintain discipline to be successful in life.

Harawa also assured the trainees that his office will seek industrial opportunities to be attached to various departments, depending on their skills.

Balaka North legislator Tonny Ngalande (Malawi Congress Party) commended the trainees for maintaining peace and discipline during their two-year studies at the college.

“We are pleased there were no demonstrations due to misunderstandings between students and management,” he said.

Ngalande pledged to support the college with resources to address mobility challenges as it has no vehicle.

Khwisa Community Technical College principal Mabvuto Mtitimila asked the district council to consider constructing additional houses to accommodate more staff as some rent houses outside the campus.

Balaka Police Station Community policing coordinator Robert Njalammanu asked the youth to desist from criminal activities.

The trainees were awarded with certificates in various courses such as plumbing, tailoring and fashion designing, bricklaying, renewable energy, automobile mechanics and welding and fabrication.

This is the second graduation since the college opened in 2018.
